Recap: Unleashing the Champion Within Through Audacious Goals
We always are so pumped after our weekly Friday meetups because they make us feel so energized and excited about what this group is doing. We had some really great conversations and dialogue centering around audacious goals last week and asked a few hard questions that got everybody thinking about how they can take their winning teams to the champion level.
If you missed the meet-up, we encourage you to go back into the community and rewatch it. In the meantime, here's a quick recap of what we discussed:
Honest Self-Assessment: We acknowledged the tendency to become complacent with being "good" and emphasized the importance of honestly assessing ourselves. It's essential to recognize when we're stuck in a comfort zone and not progressing toward our full potential.
Desire for More: Elevated living begins with a hunger for more. We discussed how this desire acts as a catalyst for growth and propels us towards greatness.
Embracing Urgency: Time waits for no one. We emphasized the significance of urgency in achieving our goals. While many may lack this sense of urgency, champions recognize the value of time and act accordingly.
Differentiating Winners and Champions: While winners and champions may seem similar at the surface, we dissected the key disparities. Champions set audacious goals that inspire others and drive collective energy towards a shared vision.
Characteristics of Audacious Goals: The meat of our conversation centered around the six main characteristics of an audacious goal.
- Audacious goals are inspiring. When you tell people about this goal, it brings energy to the room. This is where shared fate comes in (the first stop on our champion's roadmap)
- Audacious goals are also achievable and challenging. It pushes boundaries but can be done
- Audacious goals align with core values. Core values are so important because it's another way to unify your team. If you don't have core values that govern your culture, you permit employees to default to their own core values. That leads to chaos and confusion.
- Audacious goals are measurable and time-bound. If it's not measurable it's easy to blow off, and if it's not time-bound it's easy to put off. Time is important because it creates pressure and urgency.
- Audacious goals and foster unity within teams. Unity is so important because it creates a strong forward momentum. When there is a lack of unity, someone is being selfish, and is a sign that everyone is worried about themselves, not the group goal. When you have unity, you have compassion for each other. You respect each other’s responsibilities. When we have unity, we have accountability. It creates a safe space to admit mistakes.
- Audacious goals require innovation. Innovation thrives when audacious goals push us out of our comfort zones and compel us to think creatively. If we have to do something radically different to reach a radical goal, everyone has to be thinking out of the box. It breaks the pattern of “doing what we’ve always done” and actively looks for new ideas and strategies.
Leadership Perspectives: Effective leaders adopt multidirectional perspectives to find win-win solutions. Understanding what motivates and inspires team members beyond monetary incentives is crucial for building a champion culture.
Building a Champion Culture: To cultivate excitement and commitment among team members, leaders must instill a sense of purpose through audacious goals. Champion cultures foster unity, accountability, and innovation, driving individuals to push boundaries and achieve greatness together.

- How would you rate yourself and your company in terms of accountability?
- How would things change if you went to each department once a week and asked your team “What are you thinking? What are you seeing out there?” I
