Sales, Marketing and Big Wins: A Recap of Our Virtual Meeting

We had another lively and thought provoking discussion on Saturday and I’m always blown away by the ideas, support, encouragement and wisdom that is shared in this group. We hit a lot of important points in our conversation and I’ve included some highlights below. If you haven’t already, click here to RSVP for next week’s meetup.

Here are some of the highlights from our latest session:

We jumped right into our conversation on Saturday and led with asking what would happen if instead of asking ourselves “How many cold calls am I going to make today” we shifted the dialogue to “Who are the 25 people that I'm going to connect with today?”

I mentioned doing this in the mornings, spending your morning block managing your database and fostering relationships, but we agreed that this is something that can and should be done all day long.

We mentioned that it's not always about the quantity of people you’re contacting, but the quality. Think about the people who are connected to the people you want to be connected to.

Challenge: Every month, host an online session to give value to the people already in your database.

Great idea: Create a list of your customers problems, needs and concerns and host monthly sessions around these. This will generate more interest than just speaking about a random topic. Or ask them and get their input! This is being intentional about meeting people where they are.

Try this: Ask your local business journal if you can write an article on a topic of your expertise. Pre-write these articles, and use them on your own blog and website. That way, when a journal approves your proposal, you already have the article written and aren’t scrambling to find time in your busy day to meet a deadline. 

May Challenges: Go through everyone in your database and say “I was on a coaching call today and I have to do a challenge. I have to go through my network and reintroduce myself. I’m just following directions.” This allows you to blame it on someone else (me!) and takes the pressure off of you.

Then our conversation shifted to faith, where we reminded each other that we don’t have to only rely on ourselves to get through these difficult conversations, and we have everything within us to be a success.

Be quiet, be still and live out Psalm 46:10 “Be still and know that I am God” because when you do that, you connect with the strength within you. You’ve been relying on you, but we’re going to change that and rely on the spirit within us to give us everything we need to be successful.

We dove into the power of being vulnerable and the idea that “If you think it, say it” So if you’re thinking “I'm nervous to ask people I know for sale” Say that. You don't have to have a fancy speech prepared, just be honest and say what's on your heart. Keep it simple. This shows vulnerability and authenticity.

Tips from the pros:  A question was asked about how to prepare for a keynote, and y’all showed up with the advice! Some of this wisdom included:

  • Paper in your hand makes you look like an amateur. Professionals know their message inside and out.
  • People will only remember three things max, they’re not gonna remember 10 things. Pick the most important three things that will make them better.
  • Those three things need to be things you've lived, done and experienced. Les Brown says “Never tell a story without a point, and never make a point without a story”
  • They don't care about your story, how smart or accomplished you are, they want to know what are you gonna say that will make a difference in their life.
  • Capture your content so you can go back and review.
  • Keep the main thing the main thing. Focus on having a great speech, don't worry about the logo and fancy website.
  • If you go and give a forgettable keynote, your logo and website don’t matter.
  • Your story does the selling. The story should illustrate how you can help people
  • Whenever people balk at the price, it means we haven't done a good enough job proving the value.

This lead us to discussing the the hot dog theory, and someone shared a quote that really stuck out to me which was “When you are memorable, you are recommendable” #Preach!

We were practically jumping up and down at all of the big wins shared this week, especially that someone just landed her first six figure contract! At the beginning of the year she set a big audacious goal, worked her relationships and exceeded it! We love this!

We ended our meeting with our weekly challenge:

  1. Look at your database and filter everyone into cold, warm and hot leads
  2. Create a talk track for each type of lead.
  3. Choose a communication method you’re most confident with (Text, phone, email) and start reaching out and using those talk tracks to foster relationships.
  4. Be patient and be persistent.

We ended on this thought: When you integrate the topics we cover in this community into your business and execute consistently you'll reach those audacious goals!
